Godly and Ungodly Soul Ties

Godly And Ungodly Soul Ties

You rarely hear the term soul ties during Sunday morning church services, and the term soul tie itself isn’t found in scripture. Yet we can pinpoint many examples of soul ties in the biblical texts that will help us understand what soul ties are and how they are formed.

A soul tie is like a spiritual connection, bond or attachment between 2 spiritual beings. A soul tie is a spiritual uniting when two become one. Soul ties can be both good and bad, they can be formed in many ways and can be the origin of spiritual bondage in many people.

Godly Soul Ties

God created humans to be spiritually joined to Him and His kingdom, likewise he created us to be connected to each other. This is apparent by our ability to form relationships with other people and to feel love towards another. When used as God intended soul ties allow us to be committed to our spouse, enjoy in fellowship with other believers and stay connected to God.

Marriage between a man and woman speaks to the merging of two into one.

Matthew 19:5 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.

God created us as spiritual beings, because of this we are permanent, eternal. Our spirit lives on long after our flesh has perished. So anything that can tie to our spirit will remain a part of us unless it is dealt with properly. God did not create our spirits to be joined to numerous people in an ungodly way through sexual sin. Likewise, the vows and covenant established in marriage are meant to be a once in a lifetime thing. The vows of marriage are not meant to professed to 3 different people by the age of 50.

When soul ties are established apart from how God intended them to be, they can cause a lot of destruction and suffering in a person’s life.

Forming Soul Ties

There are 2 main types of soul ties I’m going to be referring to throughout this post, godly and ungodly soul ties. Comparing and contrasting these two types of soul ties expose how Satan has debased and perverted what God intended to be good for humans. Unclean spirits use soul ties like passageways, a road into our lives to do their bidding.

Ungodly soul ties once formed create dysfunctional relationships with others and are not in alignment with God’s will for our lives. These relationships are constant points of contention in our lives.

Sexual relationships outside of marriage and sexual fornication are two common ways we form ungodly soul ties. Ungodly soul ties are created through sexual sin, Corinthians 6:16 warns us of the spiritual uniting or merging created through this act.

Corinthians 6:16 “Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh. But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.”

Close relationships of any kind that have crossed over the line into idolization and obsession will cause soul ties. This can come in many forms, like a teenage girl infatuated with a musician/artist. What innocently starts out as liking a musician becomes an obsession. Holding this person in such high regards to the point of idolatry. Now you have the perfect conditions to form a soul tie.

Another example of this is when people refer to someone in their life who has a hold on them or power over them. Or someone who stays in a toxic relationship even though they are mistreated and given plenty of reason to walk away. These are just a handful of various scenarios where soul ties can be formed.

Spoken words like vows, agreements, and promises create soul ties. The Bible is very clear about the power of spoken words. Scripture also informs us of the very real spiritual realm that exists. Spoken words can form covenants and curses, likewise soul ties.

Numbers 30:2  When a man makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said.

Severing Soul Ties

There are many ways soul ties can be formed, but the way to severe them is always the same. Once you’ve been able to pinpoint areas in your life that contain ungodly soul ties, follow these steps below.

  • Identify the ungodly soul tie
  • Repent of the sin that created the ungodly soul tie
  • Renounce all ungodly ties, vows, covenants made
  • Declare the soul tie be severed and declared null and void.

There is much more than meets the eye in our world, like the unseen realm that impacts our physical lives here on earth. Soul ties are just a small piece of the spiritual puzzle that is all around us. As Christians, it is important to deal with any ungodly soul ties. The enemy will use ungodly soul ties as an entry point into your life to bring about destruction.

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you any ungodly soul ties in your life that need to be addressed. Through our belief and faith in Jesus we can stand upright in our spiritual authority and declare these ungodly soul ties to be severed and destroyed, no longer allowing the enemy access. This is just one of the many amazing gifts we receive through Jesus, the ability to severe any ungodly soul ties in our lives and unite ourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ. I don’t know about you, but that is awesome!
